Westcor is a fully-integrated real-estate development and management company, but more important, a leader in the Phoenix metropolitan retail industry. At the forefront of this company are: President and CEO Rob Ward, Chairman Rusty Lyon, Executive Vice President Wally Chester, Executive Vice President Jack Rasor and Executive Vice President Bob Williams. Westcor's strategic land acquisitions in growing trade areas and the development of those properties into successful shopping and retail centers has elevated the quality of shopping in the Valley to unprecedented heights.
Russ Lyon Jr. formed Westcor in 1970 and has nurtured it into the largest owner-manager of commercial retail properties in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Westcor properties total more than 13 million square feet of retail space and have a current value in excess of $1 billion. Currently, Westcor's portfolio inlcudes 27 shopping centers including eight super-regional, 10 specialty retail and nine power centers. Listed below are the super-regional shopping centers:
- Arrowhead Towne Center
- Desert Sky Mall
- Flagstaff Mall
- Metrocenter
- Paradise Valley Mall
- Scottsdale Fashion Square
- Superstition Springs Center
- FlatIron Crossing (August 2000--Broomfield, Colo.)
- SanTan Fashion Center (2001--Chandler, Ariz.)
- Prescott Mall (Spring 2001)
Westcor has come quite a distance since it began nearly 30 years ago with the building of its first regional shopping center, Los Arcos Mall, in the growing market area of Scottsdale. In 1974, Westcor completed Metrocenter and its innovative, two-level design forever changed the look of shopping centers. At the time, Metrocenter was the country's largest shopping center with five major department stores.
Westcor's goal of future growth around the Valley may have been born with Metrocenter's success, but was maintained by the development of other regional centers such as Paradise Valley Mall, Scottsdale Fashion Square and the future SanTan Fashion Center.
Westcor's success can be partly attributed to its philosophy, which is to create an exceptional project in a brand-new market area, be a catalyst for future growth, exemplify innovative architecture and demonstrate hands-on management of its properties. The commitment to this philosophy is apparent by the fact that five senior executives have been with Westcor for more than 20 years and have a significant ownership interest in the company. They, along with more than 100 professionals employed by Westcor, have created a dominant force in Phoenix real estate development and look forward to maintaining Westcor's presence in the Valley of the Sun and beyond.
